The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, stands as the world’s largest network of science museums and centres. With a legacy that began in 1959 with the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum in Kolkata, NCSM has grown to operate 26 science museums and centres, and has established 25 more in collaboration with State Governments and Union Territories.
NCSM transforms the way science is experienced by designing and delivering world-class museums, immersive galleries, planetariums, science parks, and innovation hubs. These interactive spaces bring science to life through storytelling, simulations, and cutting-edge technology. Recognising the need to reach wider audiences, NCSM pioneered the Mobile Science Exhibition. Today, 48 custom-designed buses take science to remote regions.
From building the first Science Park in Mumbai to creating the iconic Science City in Kolkata, NCSM continuously evolves to meet changing times. NCSM’s Innovation Hubs nurture curiosity and encourage invention among youth. Beyond science, NCSM designs cultural and international exhibitions, spanning topics from Indian Cinema to Digital India, displayed in over 19 countries.
Driven by research, inclusivity, and education, NCSM empowers over 15 million visitors annually, bridging the past, present, and future through experiential learning and transformative storytelling.
For Scarecrow, this was a unique project. Our task was to cover the vision, legacy and achievements of NCSM in a film. It required a lot of travel, detailed planning, on-the-spot adjustments, and filming at 18 different locations across India’s museums over a period of more than 40 days. In addition, the team had to fish out the best scenes from an ocean of footage. Finally, after months of hard work and sleepless nights, the film was launched across NCSM Science Centres and Museums.
